"Now then... I think we may call class into session. You see, children, one of the things most aspiring Dark Artists fail to think about when embarking on their chosen path is the dreadful burden of learning the craft. For the only way one can learn about the dark arts is through hands-on experience... It is a trial by fire." As if to illustrate the point, the curtains lining the perimeter of the room started spontaneously burst into flame, as though they had entered into Hell. It illuminated the room, showing that there were many locked trunks in the room.

"One with a dark heart and evil mind might think it would be fun, this hands-on experience. You could cast horrible things, the things of nightmares... Build experience at the expense of others. However, when your skills are undeveloped, as yours are, that leaves you susceptible to the whims of your educators-- who, by their very nature as Dark Artists, are likely ruthless and unlikely to be sympathetic or compassionate to those who are weak. After all, in order to become competent in the arts, they had to survive the trial by fire themselves. Your pain is, to the culture's way of thinking, the price you pay to learn the craft."

Kazimeriz smiled pleasantly, as though discussing the weather over tea. Perhaps he missed DADA. "But we will get to that -- to your pain-- in a moment. First, let us talk about the pain you have already inflicted. Sit. All of you. Sit." He pointed to the floor, though he conjured a chair for Mr. Denver. As a Teacher's Aide, he should not be subjected to sitting on the mossy, slimy stuff on the floor.

"Professor Lupa. Could you please explain to your students what it is like to live in our society when society identifies you as Dark? As a lycanthrope, I know you have a unique perspective on the matter. Is it fun, having so many people think of you as dangerous? Do you enjoy the power that brings- the endless ministry inquiries into your daily life, the struggle to exist daily, when so many want you either dead or incarcerated? Please... give us a slice of life lived in the Dark for the education of our Aspiring Dark Artist, Miss Riddle."
As fire surrounded them, Sapphyre resisted the urge to shriek at the top of her lungs and go to hide behind the only one who she thought didn't run the chance of killing her: the nameless older student who had, thus far, only disliked Violet. So, as Kazimeriz said sit, she sat. Well, scooped her skirt over her butt and sat on her hands. But still... She was sitting. And coming into contact with the slime. If she went home with one less fitful skirt, Cal would have fit.
