Then she asked him to measure the circle.
He took the protractor from her and started to try to measure the thing. He was never good at this kind of thing.
"Ummm. I think you're right. I'm not sure." Gold blinked.
"Mr. T!" How was he going to measure a circle with a protractor? Silly Mr. T. "You can't measure a circle with a protractor, you do it with a ruler." She smiled at him, and picked up a ruler.
"Like this."
Careful not to shift the paper from its position as she worked, Gold placed the '0' mark of the ruler at the top-center point of the circle. "See?" she told him, pointing to where the bottom of the circle coincided with a certain reading on the ruler.
"Two and a half inches, so we should be fine."
She removed the ruler from the circle, and placed it at a different point, to measure the distance between the graph paper and the block of wood. "Mr. T?" She looked up. "Could you double-check this measurement for me?" she asked him. "The distance from the edge of the graph paper, to the block of wood, I mean."
Then they could note it down.
Mmmm.
