I always knew you did." Her eyes were downcast. Marilyn no longer looked into his face. He wasn't wanting to hear anything she had to say.

"Okay." Carter said in a completely emotionless voice. "And how would you like me to respond to that?" he asked.

He had no idea what she wanted him to say. Was she looking for forgiveness? It was a way too soon for that. Was she looking for some kind of understanding? Well... that one might never happen.

And then she went into the 'I really didn't want to hurt you...". If that was the case there were much better ways of accomplishing that what she did.

And then she dug even deeper. 'I've always known you deserved better...'

Well hopefully he would never again date a girl that curses him. That would be a horrible idea.
