CRASH.

Apolline Delacour looked up from her silver teacup, and saw her baby daughter at the far end of the living room. Fleur held a big, broken piece of vase in one hand, and Apolline's eyes nearly popped out.

"Flower! Let go of that, at once!" she said, in excellent French, the tea now quite forgotten.

"Mummy?" Fleur replied, eyeing her mother with rather big, beautiful eyes. "I do bad?"

"Very," Apolline replied, shaking her head as she placed the evening newspaper on the table, and stepped up to her daughter, to scoop up the little tot, in her arms.
