Matheu walked into the lab with a different feeling than he expected. Potions wasn't really his thing in class, but this tone and location felt unique. When he walked in, he smelt the fumes and heard the bubbling of concoctions from numerous experiments. It reminded him of his old science lab in the Muggle World.

When he found a cleared off table, Matheu took a spare cauldron from the shelf and took out his books -- both his standard and annotated texts -- quills, ink, notebooks, and ingredient charts. He needed to work on something that would test his skills but will also teach him.

He read something about "Metamagi" blood. Not the blood from the Metamorphomagi species, but a different type of blood used in alchemy and creative potions that allows a more stable change than fluxweed. Luckily, Matheu's step-mother was able to get him 6 ounces of the blood! Matheu knew one complimenting ingredient to Metamagi blood: griffin claw wrapped in basil leaf. The griffin claw would subside the nitrogen chemical base and the basil leaf would contain the polar acidic solution within the copper of the blood.

"Now what would balance the equation?" Matheu asked to himself. He was always good at chemistry. His dad used to teach college chemistry at Oxford before all the magic started to influence their lives, and so he was able to understand some of the chemical mess.

He opened his notebook, drew out his alchemy chart, and inked up his quill. He sat thinking about all the math mess and elemental involvement, then he wrote:

Code:
(CH3)3C–OH +  HCl (37%) <-- --> (CH3)3C–OH2(+) Cl(–)  <-- -->    (CH3)3C(+) Cl(–)  +  H2O  -->   (CH3)3C–Cl +  H2O
dy/dx + 4E(y) = Rn(x)/uPl(y)
x=HCl
y=(CH3)3C
Matheu set up his equation and problem, reasoned the derivatives, figured the balance, calculated the probability, subdivided the possible integration, and performed the alchemy functions. When all that was done, he founded 5 possible ingredients:

1) Ginger
2) Mistletoe
3) Jobberknoll
4) Egg yolk
5) Cherry wood embers/coals

Matheu looked at the wall of ingredients and debated what to pick . . .
