Mary stood amongst the crowd searching for her son, not so much because she wanted to see him, but because she wanted to see his new girlfriend. From the letter Nate had sent them, she sounded positively lovely. She spotted him at the exact moment her husband opened his mouth and said he had found Nate. Allowing herself to be pulled along through the crowd, she walked with her husband toward Nate and his girlfriend. When they reached them, she first pulled the girl into a tight hug, and then hugged her son only half-heartedly. "Why of course it's his girlfriend!" she said, hitting her husband's arm. "Look at how pretty she is!" Mary said quietly to her husband. She liked this girl already. "I'm Marry, by the way, and this is my husband Kevin."

Cadence bit her lip nervously when Nate said that he spotted his parents. She walked behind him through the crowd, and they stopped in front of a man and woman who Cadence could only assume were his parents. She returned his mother's hug politely, and took his father's hand, smiling up at him genuinely. "It's lovely to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. King," she said in her usual sweet voice. His mother seemed really sweet, and his father at least cordial. Mr. King seemed to be reserving judgment on her, though, and perhaps that was a good thing. Looking at Nate's parents, Cadence had a feeling she might be making too strong of a first impression. She couldn't wait to get these boots off.
