She bit her lip, resting her face in the palms of both hands. "It's already hard. I have no idea how im going break his heart."

Rafe continued to talk and when Marilyn looked up into his face, she frowned. "I don't expect you to wait on me..." She stopped short when she noticed him getting closer. What was he doing? Her breath caught in her throat, and she froze. All her emotions were a jumbled mess with nothing being certain...except for a strange burning in her chest. Why did Rafe always make her feel this particular way. So hot and cold at the same time that she couldn't think straight. She was being slowly consumed by him until he ceased moving. Marilyn blinked her eyes rapidly, backing away from Rafe before she was further tempted to throw herself at him.

"My heart is racing..." She placed her hand carefully over where her heart would be, trying to calm herself. "You consume me in such a way...that I can't think straight."

"The hurt will never go away, Carter will just have to face it and deal with it in his own way, luckily he has friends to help him guide him through it," Rafe looked at his feet once more. "You just have to be honest, like you were with me." Rafe had a sinking feeling inside thinking back on that day of hearing that Marilyn chose Carter. It was one of the hardest days of his life. "Time will mend things, it's never easy, but it's something every person has to face in their lives. Even Carter. He's still young and has plenty to look forward to."

Rafe saw Marilyn backing away and he did the same. "Marilyn, I choose you and only you," Rafe didn't know how to explain it. It was something his father had said. He said that once you chose the one, then no one else would ever compare. You can love many, but in the back of your mind there would always be that special girl. That's how it was for Rafe's father. And this is how it was for Rafe. Perhaps this feeling wouldn't last, considering Rafe was only half, but the presence was definitely there. He didn't know how he could explain this to Marilyn. Perhaps it would freak her out.

"Either way you'll be hurting someone," he said softly.
