A fleeting thought (Uh oh, I hope we can fix those) bounced through Kiri's head, but she was hardly paying attention.
There was a sudden stab of sharp pain in her left hand. She glanced down - a long splinter, probably from the floor, had pierced her skin. Kiri shook her hand to dislodge it, and that moment was all it took for her to miss that the girl was casting another spell. The jinx caught her head-on, and Kiri struggled to stay upright on the broken floor against the strong gusts of wind. No! she shouted inwardly, putting her hand up in front of her eyes.
Without being able to take proper aim, she flicked her wand three times in quick succession, casting two silent Impediment jinxes - one aimed high, one low - and... "Langlock!" With her tongue glued to the roof of her mouth (assuming it worked), Kiri hoped the girl wouldn't be able to do much anymore. Surely, as a second-year she couldn't yet cast non-verbal spells, right?
As the spells flew towards their target, Kiri jumped backwards a few steps until she could feel undamaged floor beneath her feet. Kay was trying to take deep breaths and stay on her feet when Kiri throw more at her. She knew that in a duel you had to stay focused. Stepping back the first one hit her sheild. The hex came through a little and Kay tripped and fell to her knee. Was the next one that she did hear hit her sheild, the sheild fell. She jump out ot the right in hope to be missed. Kay felt the Hex hit her square in the back. When she tried to call out a Hex nothing happened. She tried and tried but nothing. She hold her hands up and bowed to Kiri. She didn't know non-verbal spells well enough to try them. Her first duel was over any she had lost.
