She casually strode to the lift, isolating herself in the corner, and indicating her need to reach floor nine, just as she casually took her time to vacate the lift, and walk down the corridor to the door that led into her new place of employ: the Department of Mystery's Time Room.
She really wasn't sure what to expect; there were many rumors of the condition of the Department of Mysteries, as well as of it's employees, the Unspeakables. Perhaps she would be condemned to working in a dim, dusty room, full of cobwebs and downtrodden, oddly ticking clocks with a lot of old fogeys who could creep out even the likes of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. While she hoped it was otherwise, she steeled herself for the possibilities anyhow, and pushed through the entrance.
The first thing she noticed, of course, was the brightness; a stark contrast to the dark hall she had been standing in but a scant moment ago... Once her eyes adjusted, and she was able to see more than just spotty white light, her senses picked up on the next blatantly obvious thing in the room: the sound of countless clocks ticking. It was bearable, though, since she noticed that they all ticked and tocked at regular intervals, rather then erratically and brokenly; it probably would have become a problem, if this weren't true.
Smoothing her hands over the non-existent wrinkles in her intentionally asymmetrical black and red robes, she began to silently traverse the room (which was easily accomplished with the sounds of clocks to drown out her footfalls) en route to the Division Head's desk to report in for her first day of work. Passing by a group of her fellow employees, she nodded to them, before continuing to the empty desk, standing rigidly with her hands stiffly laying at her sides, waiting for instruction ...
She wondered momentarily what kind of work she would be doing here in the Time Room ... no matter; she still felt the swell of anticipation, and was eager to showcase her intellectual prowess to whomever it was she was working for. Melina smiled. Another new comer, very good! The girl had definetly noticed the light difference in this room compared to in the hall, to which was was previously an occupant of. Everyone did, but after a few weeks of working there, it was an easy adjustment. Then, Melina took it as her que after Jade introduced herself, to do the same, so she put on a light smile and said, "Hello, I'm Melina Papadakis, and as Jade said; welcome."
