Evelyn had been having fun discussing the meanings of the runes, but actually using them? No one in her family really like magic that tried to predict the future. It always caused problems for them.
Just don't take any of it too seriously. You know it's all wishy-washy.
Evelyn knew exactly what she wanted to know. Her dream at the lake had been bothering her all week, the beautiful dream that had turned into a horrible one when the giant squid had pulled her beneath the surface of the lake, ignoring her struggles.
She balanced the stones one by one in her right hand...
"What does my dream mean? she whispered ever so quietly.
...and threw them on the cloth.
Five of the stones were facing upwards. She froze when she saw the rune furthest away on the cloth.
THE SCYTHE!! So I really am going to be murdered by the gentle giant squid!!
Evelyn wrote down the order of the runes, so she could try and figure them all out:
Evelyn looked at the rest of them, and felt a little relieved, even smiling. Two of the runes, Sun and Star, related to the future, so that meant she had one! She wasn't going to die anytime soon! So what could the scythe mean then? The scythe also meant something coming to an end. That didn't have to be bad. Through her constantly changing life, she knew that things coming to an end wasn't always a terrible thing.
Wow. That sounds pretty full on. But Evelyn shook her head, as if shaking away the thoughts. Like she had thought before, divination is wishy-washy. The stones could have had any number of meanings. Not everything in life has to be so dramatic as what her meaning had described.
She raised her hand,
"Professor Lupa, can we ask another question?"
