It was on 31. minute when Anelka truly tested the Man U keeper with a left-foot bending shot from out wide that needed a diving stop. Evan got his head between his hands like he was the one who missed it, and made a face. Though he was also glad at the same time. If Chelsea was to score, they'd better at the latter parts, so that United wouldn't have that much time to
force their way past Cech with everything they have. Or better, Chelsea could score 2 goals and then everyone would relax.
Nothing particular happened for 8 minutes and Evan finished his first cup of butterbeer. He was having an internal battle whether to depart his eyes off the screen to get another butterbeer when on 39 minutes happened an accidental collision between John Terry, attacking a high ball in trademark style, and Ashley Cole, the captain the one left in pain. Evan gasped. "Get up get up GET UP!" he prayed silently while watching Drogba attack. Terry couldn't be injured! After the Drogba attack came to nothing, the referee stopped the game for treatment. He sighed in relief, though it was not a head injury. Cue the game's first Fergie explosion on the touch line. He too got angry on his explosion. However he kept silent not to look like a freak who talked to TV.
It was the last minutes of the first period. When the Man U boss had been calmed and Terry recovered, the match continued with a determined Chelsea break and Deco cross. Neither Lampard nor Drogba could make the most of it. Evan again let out his breath in fury as the referee blowed his whistle for half time.
"Now, there'll be a 15-minute-break until the second period." He poured down himself some butterbeer. "This is a league game, where 20 teams compete. League Cup is the most important cup in football in every country. There are some tournaments and cups as well.
"Anyways. When a team wins, they get 3 points in league table. When they lose, they get nothing. And when it's a drawn, they get 1 point. I hope this won't end in a draw though. Chelsea will get 3 points." He gave a confident smile. "In most of the tournaments though, the matches are played two-legged. One game at both of the teams' stadiums. And the winner is decided upon their number and place of goals. In this case, if the... quality, let's name it, of the goals are still equal after the full time, an extra of 30 minutes played. If it's still the same, penalty shoot-outs determine the winner." He paused for some time to let her think. "Any more questions?"
"Oh, okay." Marie didn't think she had asked a hard question but apparently she did. Maybe Evan just didn't want to be bothered during the game. Not wanting to bother him too much she started watching the game again.
Finally there was a break in the game. Now maybe Evan would calm down a little and breath so he didn't have a heart attack. She listened carefully as he explained how the league point system worked.
"So the team with the most league points at the end of the tournament is the winner, not the team with the most wins?" She tried to thnk about how that could work out as an advantage to a team that may not be doing so well. Looking back at the TV she thought about how this game had no goals yet.
"So in this match" she said pointing to the TV,
"if no one scores then it will be considered a draw and both teams will get 1 league point?" She really hoped that Chelsea got at least one goal though so they could get the 3 points. Looking back at him she hoped her questions weren't too silly. Who would have guessed that there was so much to learn about one little game.
