A part of Kiri wondered why Lorelai just stood there and watched the ball approach. She'd nearly fallen over trying to get away from it when it was just bumping along at ground height, and now she was rooted in place.

That was background thinking, though. (Just as she noticed - much too late - that Gold had a Prefect's badge attached to her robes.)
Kiri hurried over to where Lorelai had sunk onto the grass. Her friend had already reached and sat down next to her, chattering away in that sort of undecided, don't-know-what-to-do kind of worried tone.

"I'm really sorry," Kiri said apologetically, kneeling down next to the other two, the ball on the ground nearby forgotten. "I, er... I think I got carried away a bit. I saw some of the other people doing that and wanted to give it a try myself." She studied Lorelai's face closely. The ball hadn't been flying too fast, but it was still pretty big and heavy - what if she had given the girl a bruise? Or a black eye?
"Are you okay? Does it hurt? I, erm, I can go and get Professor Lawson?" Who'll take points off me, cheers.

Another student joined Kiri's little group of kneeling people. She glanced up. A girl was standing there, a ball tucked away expertly under one arm. Kiri vaguely recalled seeing the girl's face at the feast, but they'd never met before. She did seem to know Lorelai, however. Great, Kiri thought to herself. Their first meeting was going to happen over the hunched-up form of an injured friend. "Erm..." Kiri ventured, still feeling ashamed, as Gold and Lorelai were a bit... busy with themselves. "Hi. We've, er, had a little accident here. I think we need a little break before we can continue playing, to be honest.
