The Scamanders

“First years this way!”

Rose snapped up her head as she hopped off the Hogwarts Express at the familiar sound of Roxanne. She caught a glimpse of her cousin, the prefect, helping direct tentative first years in the direction of the boats that would take them to Hogwarts for the first time. That was Rose last year.

“Hey, Rosie!”

Rose turned her attention away from the first years and followed Albus toward the carriages. Her parents had told her they were pulled by thestrals. Suspiciously eyeing the front of the carriage where the invisible creatures undoubtedly stood waiting to pull them away, Rose climbed up after Albus.

“Hello, you two.”

Rose froze. The carriage already contained two passengers. One was a boy with light brown hair and gray eyes. The other looked nearly exactly the same.

She knew that Lysander was the one sitting on the right. He was smiling at her.
