Yes, they bring stuff/abilities/traits from whatever book/movie/show they came from. For example, Jacob Black will still be a werewolf. If a Jedi comes- he/she can still use the Force, use their lightsaber, etc. They are not witches/wizards in any sense unless they actually were in the book/movie. Pretty much, the character has just stepped out of their story.
