First off, the car had broken down a few miles off of the road, and since they really needed to get to this business conference ASAP, they had decided to abandon the vehicle and start walking. Sure, there had been signs saying the area was closed due to construction, but they had ignored them--construction surely meant that there was someone who could help them!
Suddenly, the crowd had appeared. He wasn't exactly sure how they had gotten mixed up in this jam...the people seemed to be appeared out of nowhere! Some of them were clutching old boots and tin cans, and a lot of them were wearing strange clothing. WHAT WAS GOING ON?! "Eloise?" He called into the crowd as he heard her voice. He pushed past the odd looking people and found her near the middle of the crowd, nearly knocking over a few people in the process to get to her. Oops. "I'm over here!" he exclaimed as he finally caught up to his fellow worker. "Where did all these people come from?!" he asked in a sort of panic.
As he looked around, his eyes widened at a smalll group of people standing nearby. One of them had a BABY with them! A BABY! In a construction zone? Why that was just AWFUL parenting! James would have opened his mouth and scolded them (being the older of 4 boys it was a natural habit by now) but they were retreating into the distance.
They needed to figure out what was going on, and PRONTO. "I dunno where we are but...we need to get out of here. FAST." Quote:

James whipped his head around as someone--someone clearly in charge, yet still dressed funny all the same--approached them. "You! Sir! Are you in charge here?" he asked. If not, he needed to find his superior so he could explain to them about the car. Still, the car was being pushed to the back of his mind as he looked around...he could have sworn people really WERE appearing out of thin air but...that was simply impossible! |
