On shaky, still-half-asleep legs, Issy stumbled her way from the Ravenclaw Common Room to the Great Hall. She'd finished packing earlier and told herself that a quick nap would be fine, so long as she woke in time for the feast but clearly, that had not worked out as planned! By the time she got down from the girls dorm, no one was in the Common Room, least of all Samson or Willow.
Huffing and puffing just a bit, Issy slipped into the Great Hall, having missed the Headmaster's speech. Except. Brows tucked over her eyes, she scanned the table. Where was the Headmaster anyway?
She told herself she would investigate later because on her way to the Ravenclaw table, she spied Samson's head. Hurriedly, she made her way to him.
"I'm late, I'm late!" squeaked Issy as she skidded to a halt, feet fumbling and stumbling over themselves as she all but fell onto the bench.
She wanted to see Willow, too. In fact, Issy actually could see Willow, not so far away, but she was hesitant to even say anything. Unlike the rest of her friends, Willow was not sentimental. She did not do emotions and a tearful good-bye couldn't possibly bode well. There was still the train, but Issy wondered if she would even see her friend then.
Despite their differences, Willow remained one of her best friends, and Issy wondered if the other girl was even aware of this. Or of how much Issy would dearly miss her. Hugging herself, Issy righted herself on the bench beside Samson and shivered with the unshed emotions.
"Hi, Samson," she whispered, feeling suddenly shy and choked, because, he, too, was leaving.
Everyone, she realized, with icy dread in her chest, was leaving. Well, this was unexpected. Issy was literally nowhere to be found. It wasn't that he was going to go all dramatic because she wasn't here, though. It was just that the feast wasn't going to last forever, and he wanted as much as possible to spend every moment with her before the 'end' came. Truly, she wasn't the only person he considered special, but she exceeded everyone else, and he was leaving! She was staying. And he wouldn't admit it, but he knew it would be difficult to be away from her for so long.
Finally, oh finally, there she was. Even with his back slightly to her he knew it was her. And the way his heart leapt at her presence made him smile.
"Issy!" He wasted no time in gathering her in his arms and pulling her as close to him as he possibly could. After kissing the top of her head and giving her a tight hug, he loosened his grip but made it a point to keep an arm around her shoulder. "I thought you'd never come. I would've walked into the Girl's Dorm myself if I could," he laughed. At noticing a difference about Issy, however, his smile faltered ever so slightly. Something was wrong, and he knew what it was.
The reality of him and her other friends leaving was setting in on her, too. He let out a sigh as he buried his face in her hair.
