Ella got an odd sort of feeling when Carter mentioned 'the new girl in his life,' then realized, one sentence later, he wasn't referring to Marilyn. It was his new baby sister he was talking about. Some mixed feeling of relief washed over her.

Letting loose her pineapple-scented hair (the tight ponytail was starting to hurt), Ella smiled and nodded as he spoke. "It seems very exciting! Maybe you could.. visit me over the summer?" Ella asked hopefully.
