"If it were up to me, you would all be getting detention for a year!" Professor Snape threatened in a deep soft voice, to all the students arranged in the Great Hall. More than half of those attending had been involved in either the indoor fight or the outdoor brawl at the ball. The ball brawls as they came to affectionately be know, indoor and outdoor respectively, were the subject of much discussion amongst the students who had not been able to attend the festivities.

Amongst those who were there, well, it was hard to explain how they'd gotten involved but their very presence was enough. Professor Snape eyed Harry Potter in particular, the boy standing the first in the row of Gryffindor's being scolded. There were a few Slytherins, though they comprised the smallest group of all the houses. The majority of Slytherins had by one mean or another escaped capture or notice and thus were not going to be in detention. Draco smiled from where he leaned in the open doorway tot he Great Hall, his arms crossed his face smug, as he winked at Harry Potter who could do nothing for fear of making Professor Snape, who had his back to Draco, think that Harry was making faces at him.

"The headmaster seems to think that your rowdiness is on account of us not having enough ballroom dances, and he has planned another one for before the end of the first term." Professor Snape's face could no more hide his disgust than bees can stop their buzzing, or the Mona Lisa can drop her smile. Still, he proceeded bravely onward, "This does not mean that you are off the proverbial hook, as you will all be required by me to write ten parchment papers on the effects of full moons, on werewolves, the lovelorn and the loved, and list the dangers and if any apparent benefits of any lunacy potions or spells that require moon rocks."

"Loopy Loony Lovegood out to be good at that," a Slytherin whispered to anyone who would hear. Unfortunately, among those within hearing distance were Luna Lovegood who took great offense to the remark but chose to ignore it accustomed as she was to being the brunt of the jokes. The other person was Ginny Weasley, Luna's very loyal friend and she did not take kindly to having Luna insulted.

CRACK!

Suddenly, Alyssandro Ravenpeak found himself on his bum having felt the warm sting of Ginny's spell. He was rubbing his posterior when Professor Snape rolled his eyes at him in disappointment and gave him detention. Then he proceeded to give Harry detention for allegedly sniggering. Before Ron could protest, actually just the fact that he had opened his mouth got him detention as well.

"And perhaps that will teach you Mr. Weasley not to speak up for your comrades against your teachers. Less Gryffindor loyalty and more Ravenclaw mental aptitude or Slytherin ambition and you might actually achieve some modicum of success Weasley."
