"Merlin, Alex, calm down," he said in a way that was not unfriendly. "I've missed you too. Sorry I never said good-bye. Didn't expect to be gone so long."

Her. Boyfriend. Right. He pulled away, still smiling a little, though not nearly as happily. "My father wanted me along on some business thing. I didn't pay attention, so don't ask for details." His smile turned to a smirk as he thought about it. In truth, he had paid more attention than he wanted to, but most of it was boring. Minus the illegal bits, but he wasn't about to flaunt that around. "So, how about you? What's been going on?"
