Chapter 1- The Others
Cassie Gordon was an average young woman of 25 with little care in the world until one dark cloudy day in London. The sun refused to shine however that did not dampen Cassie’s mood as she stretched after a long midday nap, having not fully acclimated to the time change. She rolled over to glance at the clock on her bedside table. After processing the time in her head it was now 11pm State side making it 4pm in London. Seeing it was far too late to call her mother she decided she would get up and explore London.
She stretched her back and swung her feet to the floor of the hotel. The room was not much however it suited her. The curtains were a golden beige color that matched the coverlet of the twin size bed. The night table was bare except for a small lap and a gray battery run clock she brought from home and had yet to set to British time. Cassie had dreamed of this trip for so long that she did not care what room she closed her eyes in as long as she could still have all of London at her feet. After quickly dressing and straightening her waist length dark red hair she grabbed her shoulder bag and turned to double check she would not need any thing else before crossing the tiny room to leave.
London was all a bustle of people coming and going. First she decided she needed some coffee at the nearest Starbucks for her usual tall caramel Americano. Not much exciting happened unless you count accidentally taking someone else’s coffee by mistake. It was not until after she crossed the street and rounded the corner that she realized that the chocolate drink she had was not hers. It took about 5 minutes of drinking the coffee before she began to feel nausea churn up. Spinning on her heals she found an alley way to the right of were she stood. Walking down the narrow corridor she stumbled into a set of stairs falling to her knees.
Cassie laid her head down on the bottom stair unable to move her eyes closed to slow the spinning and slowing any further pain. From behind her she heard a swooshing sound that reminded her of the wind blowing. The next sound she heard gave her chills to her bones, the high pitched cackle of a woman followed by a deep boom of a mans voice.
“She’s not much to look at” A darker deep voice sounded “ Filthy squib”
“Silence” Barked the woman “Just apperate her to the meeting place”
The cold hands of the man was nothing to the sinking feeling she felt moments after he touched her like she was spinning and sucking into herself. When the spinning stopped she slowing opened her eyes the sight in front of her frightened her.
The sun had set wherever she was and a mist had gathered in the cold tree lined clearing. Cassie tried to turn her head to look to trees to get a better idea of where she was however she was unable to move her head and she realized that she was laying on something cold and hard. A dark clothed wild looking woman stood in the center of a circle of equaling darkly clad people she stood by a large cast iron bubbling caldron heated by an equally large fire.
The dark woman placed what looked like a twisted stick to her left arm and looked with glee at the sky. Out of nowhere more people appeared in all about thirteen hooded figures formed a circle around the dark woman and the fire.
Walking briskly toward the dark woman a fair haired man in black stopped only a few inches “ you can’t really be thinking of bringing him back” the man in black softly pleaded to the woman “think of what he will do to ….”
“Don’t pretend to understand the motives of the dark lord” the dark woman loudly replied.
The man in black sunk his head and stepped back into formation with the other hooded figures. As soon as he returned to the circle the dark woman began to pace around the circle holding the twisted stick in one hand and a dagger in the other. “Tonight he-who-has-fallen-too-soon will rise again” with a quick spin she turned to face Cassie who was still immobilized “With the blood of his only child kept secret until now he will rise to finish his grand work. For in secret he took a muggle woman who bore to him a squib child before his first fall from grace.”
Crossing the circle the dark woman came close enough for Cassie to feel her breath of her cheeks. “ Cassandra you are the key to our hope” she whispered almost tenderly into Cassie’s ear standing and facing the circle she now addressed the dark figures “ We have searched for many years for a child born on the first Tuesday of the third month after the Dark Lord’s first fall from power. She was tracked down to a small town on the East Coast of the States. It took very little to convince her to use the money she inherited form her aunt to visit London.”
The dark woman looked to see if her audience was listening satisfied with her captive audience she continued “ His rise will right the wrong doings of the great Wizarding community. We have too long spent our lives in secret like we are ashamed of our power. Under this Ministry we have seen the degradation of Pure-bloods while the filthy Mudblood Minister gives muggle borns more power and more power” Pausing she stopped at the man in black “ Draco, even you have witnessed the growing power of the mudbloods.“
Turning away from Draco the dark woman turned back to Cassie “You” Pointing at Cassie with the silver dagger ”will bring back all hope for the true rulers of man kind, Pure-bloods!”
The last thing that Cassie remembered before giving into pain and confusion was the dark woman coming at her holding the dagger.
