Theme 08: Diffindo


He was handsome, he was popular, and he had good grades - This did not exempt himself, James thought with a scrunched-up nose, from the worst Herbology lesson he had had in his five years in Hogwarts.

"What did you expect, cotton candy on sticks?" Sirius asked, rolling his eyes as James used his shoe to battle off a vine. "Sorry to burst your bubble, mate -"

"AARRRGH!" James yelped, and Sirius stopped short, eyes wide: The vine, now wound around James like a thick cord of rope, was slithering upwards, and trying to crawl into his shirt. Diffindo was the first spell that sprang into Sirius's mind, but the risk of its usage was too great - the spell, after all, could harm James.

"Do something," James said, struggling to free himself. "Where's the woman who told us these plants are only a little vicious?"

"You mean, Professor -" Sirius began but, at that moment, the Herbology professor had arrived. "What, in the name of Merlin," she demanded, as if this was all their fault. "Do you think you're doing, Mr. Potter?"

"Convincing your plants to keep out of my pants, professor," James replied with a roll of his eyes.
