There was snow in his hair, and his eyes shone with hope. Much as she wished she could hate him, Lily Evans knew she neither did, nor could anymore, and she closed her eyes as he stepped forward.

There was no escape, now.

"What do you want, Potter?" she asked, but her voice was not made of stern. Of win, more like.

"Lily, will you -"

"No," she said curtly, before he could complete his sentence because she knew, knew so well, that if she let him complete it now, she would not be able to turn him down. "If it's the same question you ask every chance you can get, the answer is still no, Potter."

His face fell, and he looked like Christmas had been cancelled. It was the same look he had worn last year, this time round, but now things were different, and Lily knew it - oh gosh, she wanted him.

"Lily, give me a chance -" he began.

"I said no," Lily said staunchly.

"Lily, come on -"

"Oppugno Avis!" As a stock of bluejays materialized out of the tip of her wand and shot straight his way, James Potter yelped and ducked for cover.
