"SQUUUAAACKKKKK!"

About to descend the staircase that led away from a certain common room, the Gryffindor Head of House came to a startled halt. The noise, she was sure, was coming from the Gryffindor commons a flight of steps away and, hitching her shawl higher on her shoulders, the lady made for the place at once.

"Owl pellets!" she announced to the Fat Lady, who slid sideways to permit her entry. Her eyes widened the moment she was inside: a crowd of Gryffindors had gathered around what looked like a very pink duckling.

"SQUACK!" quacked the duckie happily. "SQUACKK!"

"What do you say about Quietus?" James Potter's voice was bored. "I mean, he's cute and all, but he's loud enough to wake the dead, you know that."

"I don't know," Remus Lupin replied anxiously. "I really think we should tell a professor, this can -"

"- Only get better, yes," James finished happily. That was the last straw. The Head of House pulled herself to her fullest height, and marched forward. "Mr. Potter!" she said, her tones at their sternest. "What in the name of Merlin have you been doing?"

"Just showing Duckie Snivellus Snape his new farm, professor," James replied sweetly.
