Had it not been for the lone word repeating over and over in her head---getting louder and louder as the time passed---LouAnn might have heard Rafe's cheerful greeting to her. As it was, though, she didn't, and she ended up walking right into him. She didn't snap out of the little trance she was in, but she did stop dead in her tracks in the middle of the corridor. She didn't move or make any attempt to apologize for the crash. Instead, she stared straight ahead for a few moments, then finally blinked her way out of the trance she'd been in.
Her initial thought was pure fear---it'd happened again. She'd lost time and had no idea where it had gone or what had happened while she'd been blacked out. Spotting Rafe standing before her, LouAnn burst into tears. "Oh, Rafe! Rafe, I'm so sorry!" she said, sobbing loudly for reasons even she didn't know.
