Evelyn walked cautiously into the room. The first thing she noticed were the enormous pixies all huddled in a small group, looking at something. ‘Is it even legal to have them that size?’ she thought, staring at them with uncertainty. She had changed into jeans, a t-shirt, and better running shoes before she came, all tailor made of course. There was no way she was doing this in her school uniform, especially the skirt.

The pixies hadn’t noticed her yet so she took the time to look around the room some more, bending down lower to the ground so they had even less chance of seeing her. Evelyn saw a huge cage at the back of the room along with few desks and chairs placed haphazardly around the room, two bookshelves, and a million books and…lamps? ‘What?’ That wasn’t odd at all. Rolling her eyes, she quietly took out her wand and moved closer to the nearest desk, peering over the top to look at the pixies. To say she wasn’t nervous would be like saying she wasn’t a pureblood or a Slytherin. Those things were almost as big as her and them, all of them, against one of her? Not fair!

Stepping to the side slightly to get a better view and to figure out what she had to do, there was suddenly a loud *CRUNCH*. Looking down in horror, she had stepped on some old crinkled papers that looked to be torn from a book. A loud noise filled her ears as she looked up and saw all the pixies black beady eyes staring at her with evil and mischievous looks, yelling in some language she didn’t understand. “Not good.” Evelyn muttered to herself as she dodged a book that was thrown her way. Running low to the ground, she heard the scuffle of feet run like a stampede run after her along with what seemed to be wings. She just reached the third desk when something pulled at her arm. Not thinking twice about it, she pointed her wand behind her and yelled, “Petrificus Totalus!”

The pixie let go of her arm and landed with a *THUD* to the ground. Satisfied with her work so far, Evelyn turned to run to the other side of the room when she stopped in her tracks, staring wide eyed. About six or seven pixies were standing in front of her holding enormous books and lamps, three were flying, leering impishly at her, and two others were on either side of her. ‘Don’t panic. The professor wouldn’t put you through anything that dangerous.’ She tried reassuring herself, turning to all different directions to watch each pixie’s movements. ‘Or maybe he would…’ Suddenly, everything seemed to speed up in motion. A book hit her in the back of her head, sending her tumbling to the ground and then before she knew it, she was hanging upside down in the air, her wand falling out of her grasp and clattering to the floor.

Defenseless and eight feet off the ground, Evelyn looked up angrily at the pixie that was holding onto her ankle. She tried kicking at it with her free leg, but the pixie dodged and grabbed it as well. Another pixie flew up and held onto her arms, making her lose even more control over the situation. Her anger was rising even more and she could start to feel the prickle of magic at her finger tips, her throat closing slightly as she squeezed her eyes shut, heart pounding, trying to hold it back. Another two books flew at her, hitting her stomach and her back. She lost control then, suddenly sending a wall of magic to a ten feet radius around her. The pixies were thrown backwards against the walls, book cases, and into desks as if they were hit with bludgers. She, on the other hand, was dumped painfully on a desk, and thudded to the ground.
“Definitely going to feel that tomorrow.” She groaned. Moving to all fours, she saw that, miraculously, she landed right in front of her wand.

Evelyn picked up her wand and stood up, wincing as a throbbing headache started in her temple, losing her focus somewhat. She heard a lamp crash right behind her, making her duck slightly in defense. Another pixie grabbed her arm, surprising her. Reflexes taking over, she tore her arm away from it, a bit too quickly. “Argh!” Three cut marks graced her arm, red dots beginning to show. “STUPEFY!” she yelled. It wasn’t a spell they used in the class yet, but it was the first thing that came to mind and it worked like a charm. “Locomotor Mortis!” she yelled at another advancing pixie. Evelyn ran and slid behind another desk as a lamp was thrown her way, papers flying in the air, and their shrilly little voices shrieking through her ears. Breathing heavily, she pushed the desk over so she could have more defense. Peaking over the top, she sent another spell their way. “Expelliarmus!” the spell hit one of the pixies square in the chest, sending him backwards against the wall, falling unconscious. Petrificus Totalus! Locomotor Mort-” she squeaked as a lamp barely missed her head, and she ducked behind the desk. ‘Five down, six more to go.’ She thought confidently in her mind, standing back up and firing another spell at the pixies. “Expelliarmus!" Things were getting out of hand, as she ducked again and three more books and two lamps were sent her way, crashing at the wall she now faced.

“Stop!” She stood up and sent a spell wordlessly toward the pixies. Two of them fell unconscious instantly, twitching slightly, two of them stopped in their tracks to help the two on the floor, and the last two stopped because of her yelling. Evelyn used this distraction to fight off the rest of them. She wanted to be done already. Her head was pounding, her arm stinging, and she somehow twisted her foot just now. “Bloody Hell!" At this point, she didn’t care which spells she used, she just wanted out. “SERPENSORTIA!” a large snake erupted from her wand and landed in front of her, slithering its way to the pixies. ‘Good distraction.’ Evelyn thought. Sending a stinging hex at one pixie, and another silent curse at the other causing him to fall backwards and stick to the ground, she only had two left to go.

As if realizing this fact, the last two pixies ditched the snake and flew into the air. “Running away are you?” she laughed evilly, smirking. She had won this battle. Furnunculus!” she yelled out, pointing her wand at the left pixie, large boils sprouting on his body and he fell to the floor in shock. Swiftly pointing her wand at the last pixie, “Petrificus Totalus.” She said lazily, almost out of breathe. Evelyn sighed, breathing deeply, when he fell to the floor, frozen. Wiping the little beads of sweat off of her forehead with her uninjured, she turned and hauled each and every pixie back in the cage, some of them she had to use the body-binding curse so they wouldn’t scratch her or try to get away. Then one last final problem. The snake. It slithered its way toward her, its little black eyes finding her shoes to be a nice victim. “Incendio.” She pointed at the snake, making it burst into flames and shrivel to ash. She smiled slightly as she watched the flame.

She could feel her magic buzzing through her veins, edging her to continue to more powerful spells. ‘Later, when there aren’t any teachers around.’ Evelyn told herself in her mind, trying to calm herself down enough so there weren’t any random explosions around her from uncontrolled magic. Walking out of the room, she closed the door slowly and silently, trying not to scratch her damaged arm that was starting its healing process. “All done, Professor.” She said, almost inaudibly, limping and swaying slightly as she walked slowly away, holding her aching head.
