Yes, Jake wanted the truth once and for all. 'Selective hearing'? More like 'selective answer', but perhaps she was making a big deal out of this, perhaps Jake would react badly to her leaving, after all, that's what people eventually did in Hogwarts. Leave once their final year is over.
'Ignoring him'. No, she's never ignored Jake, except now, sort of, and it wasn't ignoring Jake, it was ignoring Jake's question. That's when her eyes started to water a bit. How could anyone in their right mind ignore Jake? Certainly not her.
'Being mean'. Her eyes widened, how--what---when---? She wasn't being mean, was she? No, Dominic was the one that could be mean, not her. That's when a single tear left her eye. "I don't like you to think I'm being mean, Jake...I just...I'm sorry I didn't answer" she started, and proceeded to remove the wetness of her eyes.
"But if you want to know, and I think you know already, I'm in seventh year, my last year" she said, as nicely as she could manage.
Keeping quiet throughout the whole of Kaika's response, so as not to distract her from the truth, Jake noticed the girl's eyes were tearing up. He had no sooner noticed that than experienced it, and quickly turned his head so he could glare down at his knees (and proving this to be a bad move, because it just made it easier and more obvious for tears to fall).
"Okay," Jake finally said, meaning to sound content with the answer... and nearly reeling in shock as his voice went an octave higher, followed by a hitching of the breath. He was... crying. Looking up at the girl, Jake shook his head slowly. "Don't go," he begged, quietly.
