Alex walking into the holding room as Kass spoke. "Jacob?" he asked. Alex grinned at Kass. She'd beaten him here. He was going to do the same thing she had: feed and pet the hatchling dragons. "Seems like a decent name for him." He continued. Alex crossed the room to the hybrid dragon's cage. "Why, hello there, Jacob." he said to the baby dragon. Alex resisted the urge to reach out and touch the dragon. It seemed so innocent and harmless, but without a bribe of meat, Alex's fingers might well become food, as he well knew. He'd been snapped at several times by less dangerous creatures than dragons in his previous jobs, and the bites had ranged from harmless to in need of a healer's attention.

Alex walked away from Kass and the dragon to get a canister of meet for one of the other hungry dragon hatchlings. Alex let the baby Welsh Green out of its cage, gently coaxing it to eat the meat from the can. He patted the still leathery scales of the baby dragon. In a few months, the soft scales of the baby dragons would harden to the strength of diamonds. "I'm gonna miss the little guys, when we have to send them away." Alex admitted, but the room was empty. Kass had left after giving each of the other dragons a pat on the head. The mixed-breed Jacob was safely returned to his cage. Alex coaxed the welsh green back into it's cage without incident. Fastening the lock on the cage securely, he left for his own desk and paperwork in need of filing.
