Glancing down each side of the table her face suddenly lit up when she spotted a certain little brunette not far away.Wesley.One of her best friends, who didn't look very happy again. Ohhh I thought I had cheered her up the other day. Leaving her own food behind, she swung her legs out from under the table, stood up,and made her way down towards Wesley. "Hi," she smiled, trying not to startle her.Sitting down in a free space,Sarah leant forward and grabbed an apple from the selection. Before taking a bite she looked down her her friend, tilting her head to the side. "You don't look too happy,Wes.Tell me what's wrong."
Still gulping water, Wesley opened her eyes as she heard Sarah say hello. Taking one huge swig and finishing the drink, Wesley set it down next to her empty plate, rubbed her wet mouth on her arm, and brightly said,
"Hello Sarah!"
Trying to stomach her gnawing feeling of unfaithfulness, Wesley was determined not to imprint her depressing mood on others, especially Sarah. The Hufflepuff blinked, pulling the blind down on her thoughts, and smiled brightly. She was genuinely happy to see one of her greatest friends. In fact, just seeing her fellow Hufflepuff brought a flow of giddiness into the tiny girl, reminding her of how fun this summer was going to be. Barely able to keep in her bubbling excitement, the soon-to-be second year watched as her friend grabbed an apple.
But then, with one single question, her happiness disappeared like a popped balloon. She hadn't looked that sad, had she? Biting her lip, Wesley stalled, trying to think of how to respond. She couldn't lie. That would be bad. But then- why would she lie, there was nothing to hide, right? Why was she even sad? She was going home to see her family that she
loved, and then she was going to spend some time with Sarah and Mariel. Father and Mother had written back to her- they had said it was fine for her to visit Sarah and her family. Of course, Wesley had sort of skimmed over the part about how Sarah was from an all muggle family, just saying that it was going to be an educational experience. Because it was. She was going to learn a lot. And she WASN'T going to be scared. Muggles where scary, but Wesley wasn't going to get frightened. She was going to be brave. Sarah was nice so her family must be nice. They had to be nice- she was positive.
So then- why was she so sad? Unsure of the reason behind her feelings, the child decided she had to make up something fast. Glancing around for some inspiration, her eyes landed on her empty plate,
"Oh, it's just, I'm not really hungry. And I have to eat something, or else I won't be able to sleep tonight. Then tomorrow I'll be so tired and probably won't be able to eat anything. Because it's hard to eat when you're sleepy. Which means I'll get dehydrated and train-sick and vomit. And I don't want to vomit because vomiting is scary, and it hurts!"
she ended on a serious note. It was the truth. She wasn't lying. Wesley was trying very hard to be a good girl, and good girl's didn't lie.
