Perhaps a new outfit or two wouldn't hurt...
But the brunette was brought back to the present and her office at the girl's voice. Her stammering and feeble attempts to admit she sent her a memo. Well duh, of course she did! Fighting back a snicker, Sophia was almost wondering even more if she made a mistake. It wasn't too late to choose someone else, was it?
Oh. Ms Glass was waiting for a response.
"Yes... Yes, I did send that," she agreed, pursing her lips lightly. "But I don't suppose you know why I've summoned you." You need new shoes ... she thought grimly, as she let the words simmer for a bit. "You see, after years of service, Mr Donovan Calrissian has vacated his position as Locked Room Division Head. And with that vacated spot, then I've needed to fill it with someone responsible and loyal to the Ministry and this department. Now I understand you've been employed in the Death Chamber for quite some time, so this would be a slight change in scenery, but after review of your files, then I would like to offer you the position. Be weary though, the effects of being in the room for extended periods could be toxic should you choose to accept." And that was enough rambling for Sophia Anne .... almost.
Okay, so whatever was going on, she hadn't really shown that she was an intelligent human being. And she didn't like the way that her Department Head was eyeing her up and down. A, "is there anything wrong with me?" almost slipped from her mouth, but keeping her lips tight together, she stood quiet and acquiescent as a doll.
Nothing, at all, could of prepared her for what the woman said afterwards. She was joking. That was it. She was going to let her stand there and feel uncomfortable for a few moments, and then give a laugh and tell her that it was all a joke. Right..?
Right. Standing in silence for the allocated time that she'd worked out would be the correct amount of time, Alyss could feel something slipping into her brain. It wasn't a joke. Wow. They actually thought that she was the best candidate to lead a division. In a way it made a small flush of pride wash over her, but otherwise, it was making her blanch. Eventually, she found her voice and answered,
"I, thank you for this opportunity to be in charge of a division, it's most kind of you, and I'd happily accept the position." Wasn't it just twenty minutes ago that she was wanting a change of scene?
Merlin worked in mysterious ways.
Very mysterious.
