"I have no reason to worry about if you mean it or not. If you didn't mean it, it would come out sooner or later." It usually did, seeing as it appeared Mari had chosen her as the person to go to whenever Cayden did anything. Which she had to admit to herself, she was oddly happy over that, since it still hurt a little that Asteira had known about the stuff with Nicholai, and then there was the whole time where it had seemed like her cousin wanted to pretend she didn't exist. Seth ignoring her was one thing, but Asteira's ignoring her had hurt. So Mari coming to her about Cayden made her feel like she had a reason in their friendship. Even if she had a hard time being objective. She looked at him silently as he emphasized that she had helped Mari, not really feeling that it needed any more conversation. But as he chuckled, her expression darkened.

She sighed as he spoke about Robert, and his perception that he wasn't fond of Mari. "You're not exactly right with that. I certainly don't think Robert isn't fond of Mari. It took a while, because he was really hurt when she left him for you, but I think he's starting to try to be friends with her again. Maybe it's just because he knows I'm not going to abandon her, I'm not going to pretend that's not a possibility. But I think it's more that he's just not fond of her relationship with you," she explained, before lapsing into silence again as he started speaking like he knew Robert's mind. That bothered her a little, but arguing with Cayden wasn't worth it. But then he was back to questioning Robert's alleged hatred, and she fought to not roll her eyes. "Just because he may have, as you say, found what he was looking for in me, doesn't change how hurt he was at the beginning of this term. Which you have to admit, you had a large part in causing that hurt. It's not something you can just forget." She paused for a split second, before her eyes went back to Cayden sharply. His logic really was strange. "You're right about one thing, though. He should be grateful to me, but not because we're together. Because I didn't listen to you and abandon him like you were so worried I was going to do to Mari. What ended up happening between the two of us was just a really good outcome, that I certainly can say wasn't expected. So, in a really odd way, I guess I should thank you for making me determined to prove I didn't have to abandon either of them just because they'd broken up, since it brought me to where I am today."

She closed her eyes as she tried to relax the tension that had built during the conversation, unclenching the fists that she had made when she was railing at him, but listened as he spoke about what he had done. "It really is twisted, and if you don't mind, I'm not going to try and understand it," she said quietly, keeping her eyes closed until he spoke about offering his jacket. Opening her eyes again to look at him curiously, she said, "I'll be fine, but thanks for the offer." A tiny grin appeared on her face, though, in relation to his hope that she'd change around him. "As long as you don't try to think I'll stop being argumentative around you. Because that's just something you bring out in me. But I'll try to stop being so tense when you show up." She blinked as he thanked her again for helping Mari when he'd messed up, then shrugged. "I still don't know why I defended you either. But you're welcome. I'll always be there for Mari, just as long as you remember that." If it sounded like a threat, she didn't really care. She nodded as he spoke about being protected because of her friendship with Mari, glancing back in the direction of where Mari and Robert were, and as he said she could go back, she looked back at him. "Thank you. And I'll at least guarantee we'll remain civil. Friends might take some time." And at that statement, she turned to walk back toward the fire.

As she got back over near where she'd left her sleeping bag, she grinned at the sight of Robert lying there with his eyes closed. Sending a glance at Mari to tell her not to say anything, she walked up so she was standing right by his head, then nudged him lightly with her foot. "That's still my sleeping bag," she teased him, before kneeling down to move him over enough so she could sit down again.
