Just as he was about to ask her what was up, Hannah blurted it out.
"Ernie asked me to the ball!" she exclaimed. Clearly, his Hufflepuff friend was beyond ecstatic about this. Booooo. He KNEW he should have asked her sooner! Stupid Ernie Macmillian.
"Really? That--that's great!" he said, putting on a grin for her sake.
"So, have you thought on who you're asking to the Yule Ball yet?" she asked him.
Neville needed an answer, and fast. Just then, Hermione walked out of the portrait hole, waving at them before going down the stairs.
"Hermione. I'm asking Hermione."
