She really wanted to leave. To just get up and run out of the hall after Celandine, but something made Kiri stay regardless. She felt fear and anger and pity for the howling woman in the cage, but she also wanted to see this assembly through to the end. It was clear that something had gone wrong in the teachers' planning. Maybe the potion, which - according to Professor Kazimeriz - was so desperately tricky to make, hadn't been brewed perfectly. The potion... Kiri could still taste it on her lips, and it was still as icky as before, but Kiri understood very well now why no one would spend even a second thinking about that when the alternative was something like Professor Lupa was going through right before her very eyes.
And Kiri was glad for the solid metal bars of the cage. The Wolfsbane might suppress the werewolf's violent urges, but Professor Lupa was still terribly scary. Her eyes were huge and gleamed madly. Her teeth lengthened visibly as Kiri watched, and her robes were being torn apart as her body changed shape. Kiri clung to the bench even more tightly, trying to make sense of the kind Professor Lupa she saw around the school every day and the werewolf rattling the cage's bars in front of her.
