Kiri took the little phial and eyed it sceptically. The old professor's description of it hadn't sounded very encouraging. And he was a Potions master, too, which meant that, by now, his sense of taste must either be gone completely or so numbed that everything tasted more or less acceptable.
Several of her classmates around her were apparently of the same opinion. A symphony of gurgling and gagging echoed through the Great Hall as people downed the taste-alike Wolfsbane. Kiri fumbled with the stopper. The odours coming from the little flask - and everyone else's... they were bad smells. Knowing what the potion's ingredients were did not help one bit. Kiri pinched her nose shut and tipped the potion into her mouth.
A moment later, she wished she hadn't. The taste was similar to the smell, only much stronger. And coating to her tongue and gums and teeth and... Kiri swallowed quickly. The stuff was foul!
She wiped her mouth with the sleeve of her robes. Naturally, there was nothing to drink to wash away the taste; she just had to hope that the assembly wouldn't continue for that much longer. Cupping her hand in front of her mouth, Kiri caught a whiff of the potion in her breath. She lowered the hand quickly and began breathing through her nose.
Professor Lupa, Kiri could see when she glanced towards the dais in front, was surveying the scene calmly. Maybe even with some amusement. Of course, she must have drunk the Wolfsbane Potion a thousand times. It was probably a matter of getting used to it. And considering the alternative... Kiri shuddered at the thought.
