And without further ado...
Chapter 27
We were bombarded with a hug from Hermione when we were out safely. Harry quickly explained that they needed to get going, but honestly, I wanted to stay there all day, surrounded by my friends, and safe. But of course Harry had other plans, and I wasn’t going to abandon him.
As we ran out of the bathroom, we passed a group of Huffie students, all in night clothes, looking horribly confused. They were being led by their prefects down to the grounds, and some looked not-too-happy about it.
“Why can’t we stay and help?” That was...the Bones girl. A few other seventh years took on the complaint. Soon there was no order, most of the younger girls were crying, and the prefects looked mortified.
“LISTEN TO ME!” Harry yelled, shoving the fang into Ron’s surprised hands. “You guys!” he continued, pointing to the group of seventh years, “Shut your mouths and listen to you prefects!” then he turned to the younger kids, and lowered his voice. “And you guys. If you’ll just be good and follow directions, you’ll be safe soon.” he nodded, and the crying stopped. Just then, Professor Sprout came up, followed closely behind McGonagall.
“Professor!” One of the seventh year complained, looking past Harry’s glare, “What if we wanna stay and help?” Sprout looked proud - clearly she was happy that her house was getting courageous.
“Fine. Anyone older than seventeen that is wishing to stay - fine. But anyone younger better get their behinds out of this castle.” she looked sternly at the prefects then continued past the group of Hufflepuffs, onto somewhere I don’t know. The prefects looked gratefully at Harry as they ushered the younger-than-seventeen students toward the entranceway.
We didn’t run into anything else on our way back to the gargoyle entrance. We hurried up the spiral staircase, bursting into the office in record time. I turned away as Harry got ready to stab the sword. I few seconds after I looked away, I heard the screeching sound of metal on metal, a scream that sounded as if it came from a distance, and then I just heard deep breathing. Turning around, I looked at Harry, seeing his shoulders rise and fall as he breathed.
“Is it...dead?” I asked cautiously. Harry turned around, a half-smile on his face. He nodded, and crossed the few steps to me. I glanced around his shoulder, and saw the sword lying on the desk. It looked the same as it did before, except now there was a circular whole in the blade, the edges of the whole stained with some black, drying liquid. I grimaced, looking away as the other three went to leave the office.
“You stay here.” Harry said suddenly. For a second, I thought he was talking to everyone, but then I realized his gaze was right on mine.
“What?!” I demanded, my mouth dropping open. Hermione and Ron stealthily slipped out of the office while Harry sighed as if I was being an extremely stubborn four-year-old.
“Stay here.” he repeated. His voice was suddenly harsh, and I couldn’t help but stare dumbfounded at him.
“I am not staying!”
“You are.”
“I'm not!”
We were now glaring at each other. Well, I wasn’t going to back down, and Harry was never going to give up, I was sure of that. We were silent for a long moment, then Harry turned swiftyly away from me and his shoulders sagged.
“I don’t want to lose you, Gin.” My heart involuntarily leaped at his words. “I can’t have you running around out there with everything else happening...and not be able to know if you’re okay or not. I can’t stay by you the whole time and make sure nothing hurts you.” Despite his words and the way they made my heart and mind react, I was now a bit annoyed with him.
“Harry, seriously?” my tone made him turn around, and I saw the emotion in his eyes. “Harry, I’m old enough to take care of myself. I’ve been taking care of myself my whole life - Fred and George are my brothers.” my feeble attempt at a joke didn’t make him laugh - or even smile, so I carried on. “You don’t need to worry about me, okay? You just go and do your world-saving, and when everything’s finished, I’ll be here. You’ll be here, too.” I don’t know whether I added that part for him, or if it was for me. But I gave him an
I’m Completely Serious About This look, and he sighed again.
“Alright.” he breathed, and crossed the small space between us in the blink of an eye.
Before my brain could register what was happening, Harry’s lips were on mine. They were hard and unyielding, but also soft and loving. As soon as I had a chance to respond, though, he pulled away from me and was heading for the door.
“I love you, Ginerva Weasley.” he said seriously, his hand on the door handle. “And you’re right.” with that, he was gone - out the door to save the whole wizarding and muggle worlds.
I already have another chapter in the works! Hopefully it won't take me as long to write it this time
