I guess I'm going to be the lone wolf here. Before I start let me first say that I love the books. They are the HP gospel, I guess I can say. Fortunately, for the purposes of this thread I'm not reviewing the book so I'm in the clear when I say what it is I'm going to say.
First of all, I go to movies to be entertained. I was entertained through the whole movie. If I go to a HP movie with the book in mind, I've just wasted $8 and two and a half hours of my time. Hence the reason, I forget the books before I go and watch a movie. A movie that brings my favorite world to life. Accurate or not, I don't care. The movie was funny, scary, dramatic...everything a good movie should be.
Second, threads like this crack me up. For the last several movies people gripe and complain about how the movies aren't an actual depiction of the books. And every time someone says something to the effect of, I'm not going to watch the movies ever again. Yet, some of those same people will go out and buy the DVD and will, if fact, go see the movie when the next one comes out. My dear friends, it's a movie. What's wrong with tweaking a little if it tells the same flippin' story and gets to the same conclusion?
As far as a review which is the point of this post. I loved it! I understand (after I got home and reflected) why things were cut and why things were done a certain way. Movie making has to suck. Restrictions are put on the directors, writers, and producers. If given their job, I don't think we could have done much better.
The acting was amazing in this movie. Tom Felton was brilliant. I really just wanted to give him a hug. Ron and the love potion scene was hilarious. I was happy he got more camera time. The two actors that they got to play young Voldy looked alike. It was believable that the little one we saw would grow up to look like the older one. I thought the end was fitting. Yeah, yeah, there was no funeral but what was done was good, I thought. And it did just...end. There was really no conclusion in the book, if we think about it. It led perfectly into the 7th book and the movie did the same thing...lead us into the final two movies.
We didn't read the books in two and half hours. And we can’t expect them to put in every detail that we want into a movie. If that’s what you want I would recommend just getting the book on tape. At least there you have a voice to listen to and they don’t take anything out. I thought out of all the movies since Chamber of Secrets, this was the better of the book adaptations. And we have to remember, I'm sure JK had to give this some kind of approval. If there was something that was totally wrong, I'm sure she let someone know.
A part of us feels like we own this series. Lest we forget who really does and if she likes it, I respect her opinion. I give this movie a 5/5. I loved it!!! It was absolutely amazing!
