"Um - Prongs? Padfoot? Everything alright?"

"Indeed!" James and Sirius said in unison, leaving Remus - who had, incidentally, been the one behind the question - absolutely sure that something was not right.

Sirius was now rubbing his hands together, while James raised his voice to make an announcement: "Listen, common room people, we've accidentally let off a BOMB of choking gas. Unless you want to suffocate, you are kindly requested to leave until we - err -" He turned to Sirius, who hastily picked up the sentence.

"Until we sort it out, of course," he said brightly. James poked him in the rib, and Sirius immediately adjusted his expressions to look more solemn. "What I meant to say was - this is all clearly very unfortunate and -"

"Oh, shut up, you two," Remus said, exasperated. He raised his wand, and pointed it at his throat. "Sonorus!"

This done, the prefect turned to the crowd who was now staring at them. "They've just let off something dangerous, and you all know what's good for you."

"What's that?" a small, first year - he had apparently not met the two most famous pranksters of Hogwarts yet - asked.

James gave him a big smile. "Running."
