At first I wasn't going to come here but an old friend asked that I do them a favour so I had my parents transfer me here." Reid told her, not offering all the information, figuring that this would be a way to draw the conversation out.
Reid began playing with his ring while sneaking surruptitious glances at Rachel. She was the most beautiful person he knew and he couldn't help but be drawn to look and talk to her. It was with a disappointed sigh that he realised that they had almost reached the stairs to the fifth floor and he was overtaken by the overwhelming urge to take hold of her hand. An urge which he fought rather successfully. He didn't know if she'd react positively to the small PDA or not and so decided not to chance it this early on. I'll hold her hand when we reach the sixth floor. Reid was determined that he'd take the risk before they parted.
"An old friend asked you to do them a favour, and in result you come to Hogwarts? Is the 'old friend' a student here?" Rachel asked, trying to keep the dismay out of her voice as she realised that they had all too quickly reached the fifth floor. What happened to the HUGE corridors of Hogwarts? The long, winding staircases that in the morning took an AGONIZINGLY long time to climb or descend? Where was the HUGE castle and why had it been replaced with something tiny and inconsequential as this pathetic little thing...
Maybe the water is making the building smaller.
Yeah, or MAYBE you're walking TOO fast! a voice in her head yelled indignantly, cutting off all her other mental rants about mini-Hogwarts. Immediately her pace, which had unconsciously began to increase, reduced itself to snail speed yet again and she smiled slightly as she saw the loooooong corridor in front of them. Good - excellent sports, more time with Reid. Perfect!
Grinning at that last thought - the spending time with the gorgeous boy next to her one - she automatically reached up to more a stray strand of hair away from her face and behind her ear, knowing fully well that in less than five seconds that strand will be over her face again. But she didn't care -for once- because guess what?! Rachel Rider was with Reid Hemingway - and NOTHING was going to make her sad now. Nothing AT ALL.
Hopefully.
