Close enough that she could look over, but not enough that she'd be at risk of falling. Looking over the edge, she spoke gently, loud enough that her voice would carry, and yet not yelling. "Bartholemew? Mr. Henry?," she said. "Can you please come up and talk to us? Mr. Masterson just needs to ask you for a little favor, and then we'll stop bugging you." Something told her this whole thing had to do with the flooding, which needed to be solved. And maybe being polite to the squid would help.
