All thoughts of Bartholomew the giant squid suffocating to death left when little Kiwi grabbed a hold of his hand. The seventh year froze, unsure what to do.. he somehow managed not to pull his hand away though. He was scared, and he supposed Kiwi was too.
"I'm not sure," Clifford murmured darkly, eyes narrowing toward the darker end of the corridor. He most certainly was NOT going that way. "But I wish it would just stay outside!" Oh goodness. He wanted to hurry to the kitchens to save as much food as he could.. maybe a few house elves too. Vanessa and Dominic were surely aiding the Hufflepuffs in the Common Room - if the water had reached that far anyway.. and Kiwi was still gripping onto his hand. "It's probably gonna get higher, just like it did down in the dungeons.." and he certainly wasn't going to stay around if that was happening.
"H-higher?" Kiri's calm was breaking down fast now that the water was swirling stronger around her fully submerged shoes. She was shivering from the cold. She peered around Clifford, half-expecting a wave to suddenly appear out of the dark and sweep them away.
Then she remembered the Hufflepuffs. They were on this level as well, weren't they? Kiri didn't know where exactly their common room was, so she wasn't sure if they were supposed to come this way or not, but the fact that Clifford and her were all alone in this corridor was a little disconcerting. But surely the professors knew about this second flooding by now, and they and the Hufflepuff prefects would get everyone out safely, as they had done when the Slytherins had to evacuate.
The corridor was still filling up rapidly. Kir's feet felt numb. When she shifted her weight, she nearly slipped a second time. She could feel the current's pull clearly now, and the distressing smell that came along with the water made her head spin. Or was it the water itself? She squeezed Clifford's hand. "Can we get out of here, please?" she whispered. "I'm... scared."
