Kiri passed the Sandbox on her way back to the castle. This had been a new addition to the Grounds, and she wasn't quite sure what to think of it. Quite a few people, even older students, were regularly enjoying themselves there, but Kiri never gave it a second glance when she was outside.
Today, however, she did. Next to the usual groups of students sitting in the sand, chattering or, perhaps, building silicate strongholds, was a patch of something violently pink. Next to it a student lay on the ground, staring upwards, unmoving. Brows furrowed, Kiri followed up that second glance with a third one, actually paying attention this time. Was that... a cat? With pink fur?! Changing direction immediately, Kiri stepped into the sandbox.
As she came closer, she saw that the boy had pink hair as well. Only one student in Hogwarts (and probably all its history) had pink hair. What was Jacob Upstead doing?! From what she'd seen and been told of him, he was no stranger to, well, strangeness, but even for him, this looked odd. His eyes rolled around in their sockets panicky. This disquieted Kiri a little. He was either a very good actor, or something really was wrong. Equally, the cat didn't seem to moving. At all. Terminally so. Kiri was not going to touch a possibly dead animal, but she should at least make sure that Jake was alright. Wide-eyed, she stepped over to him and peered at him closely. "Jake?" she said loudly, waving her hands across his face. "Everything alright? Can you, er, hear me?"
