"Like my classmate, I too have a masternumber which I calculated both with and without reducing it... both gave me the same number." She passed the parchment forwards.
8 + 11 2 + 6= 25 16 2+5= 7 1+6=7
"Could it be more than mere coincidence?" Listening to the student's question, Macadrian explained, "Perhaps coincidence is the wrong word. While the final answer in single digit form will be the same, you could miss a Master Number for a final answer that would completely make your calculation incorrect. Master Numbers are very important in Arithmancy and forgetting to reduce creates the potential to miss this important set of numbers. So, in the case of you and your classmate, the final answers were the same because your numbers didn't ultimately result in a Master Number, but they could have and you would have completely been unaware of that presence and that power. Make sense?"
Having given the students ample time to perform their calculations, Professor Shackleton jotted down a note of house points earnings so far on a spare bit of parchment before continuing the lesson. "We are now ready to begin analyzing our Life Path Numbers. Remember that this number tells us the road you'll follow throughout your life, as well as your talents and abilities that will help you along that road. It is a major tool for navigating the road of life and tells what you can depend upon to find success in the world.
"While others may share the same Life Path number, it is the combination of all your numbers that will help to clarify how to proceed down this path of life. By the end of the term, you will understand that combination. And so we'll begin our journey with interpreting the Life Path. Who would like to volunteer to have the class analyze their Life Path? I suggest that the person who volunteers be very comfortable having an entire classroom discussing their potential future, and both the good and bad that may go with that."
