"What year are you in, anyway?" he asked suddenly, cocking an eyebrow at the look she was giving...her goblet? Um...oookay...anyway. He had just realized that although he might know a ton of Ravvies, he might not know anyone his age. That was...kinda weird. Hopefully he knew at least one third year...
"Hmm?" Mariel's eyes snapped away from her goblet as Keltan spoke to her, shaking her out of her thoughts of poisoned pumpkin juice. "Oh! Right, no problem," she said in response to the whole back-up partner plan. And he could be her back-up to, so win-win situation.

Waving her hand dismisively, she said, "I'm in my third year... same as you. We had this conversation on the train right about the same time we were discussing how we'll both be turning fourteen this month." And really, she couldn't fault him for forgetting... She had an impeccable memory and, besides, she was certain he had met a ton of people recently being new and all, and probably had a hard time keeping everything straight.

"So, you said you were homeschooled, right?" Mariel said, watching him momentarily. "What subjects did you like?" she added, wondering if they'd be like classes here. Of course she had been homeschooled up until the age of eleven, but her classes weren't as magically inclined as the classes here, mostly the basic reading and math sort of things. Certainly someone a little older would've had more magical training starting at Hogwarts in their third year... or they'd soon fall behind.

"Hey!" he said giving a grin as his wandtwirled faster and his eyes lit up. He had never been so appy to see people in all his life. They must have been growing on him. :Mind if i sit?' he asked knowing it would be ok but not wanting to barge in on the Ravvies.

Sputtering, she fished for an explanation. "Umm...Just looking."

Lame.

"Nothing really. We are all just getting to know one another and catching up with old friends. The usual." She shrugged.

A familiar face loomed up and Lasca couldn't help but smile. His grin was catching on. "Hey Nate! Come on, join us." She scooted over some more and let him sit on her right between herself and Dani. The whole crew was here and the night couldn't get any better.

"Oh life was pretty slow over there actually," she continued, glancing back at her own table, which now appeared to be full of goings on. "Seems to be more happening now though," she giggled. "Although I'm happy over here with you guys."

Smiling once more she leant forward and picked up a bread roll, breaking it open with her fingers and getting crumbs down the front of her robes.Brushing them off she turned to Lasca who was introducing her to another of the Ravvies......

Awww Lasca was getting flustered.Sarah had hit a nerve. "Ahh I see," she said, nodding sagely and smiling at her friends explanation. She didn't actually believe it,but she wasn't going to press her about it.Not yet anyway....

Then someone else appeared at the table, someone Lasca seemed pleased to see.And he was wearing Slytherin robes.Nice.
Shifting slightly so there was enough room,Sarah smiled back to the newcomer. She thought she recognised him and then it hit her.He was one of the people in the carriage on the train.
Nate huh?
"Hello Nate, nice to see you." Sarah put her hand up in greeting before stuffing another bit of bread in her mouth.
Oh this might be interesting.
Mariel nearly snorted in response to Sarah's words. Oops, totally unladylike. Good thing she was able to supress it. Smiling and nodding as she listened to Sarah's further statements, she said, "I'm glad you came over anyway." She really wished that Sarah was a Ravenclaw too. Even though she saw her plenty, she knew Sarah was often worried about intruding on another House's table and she couldn't be in their common room.

Glancing away from her table for a moment, she noticed a familiar boy from the Slytherin table headed towards the Ravenclaws. "Hi, Nate," she said brightly as he sat down. "How's it going at the Slytherin table?" Her brow furrowed with slight confusion at his next words. Heart of a Slytherin? What was that supposed to mean? Most of her family had been in Slytherin and so was one of her closest friends... yet he said it like it was a negative thing... She shrugged it off, then couldn't help but to glance over at Lasca who couldn't seem happier. Hmm. From Lasca, Mariel's eyes then traveled to Sarah to whom she gave a meaningful look.

Grinning up at Copernicus as he returned her greeting, Mariel's smile completely faded into wide-eyed surprise. Staying out of trouble? Her mind immediately went to the opening feast from last term where she managed to lose fifteen points for Ravenclaw on the very first day. And she was determined not to do that again. But did Copernicus know about that and was he trying to make sure she didn't do it again? She stared at him momentarily before realizing that he couldn't possibly know... right?

Regaining her composure, she once again smiled brightly back at him. "Always," she answered, glancing up at the Staff Table. Oh no. Kazimeriz was no where in sight. That meant he was probably wandering through the student tables like last year. Well, she was going to stay on his good side. Wait, did he have a good side? Staying off his bad side was probably the more appropriate phrase here.

"And you, too, I'm sure," Mariel told Copernicus as she turned back to him. Of course he was... he was far too well-mannered to ever get into any kind of trouble, at least in her mind. "If I remember correctly, I believe your name was at the top of the list for Ravenclaw point earners." And how could anyone who earned so many points for Ravenclaw ever be in any kind of trouble?

And then she saw a familiar face, one that she hadn't seen in a very long time. "Jenn!" Mariel exclaimed from further down the table and gave her happy wave. It was such a shame they hadn't crossed paths much at all last year. Mariel was going to make it a point not to let that happen this year.
