And he couldn't. He could attempt to fall in love with another but as long as he was bound to Caitlin, and she was his Shadow Girl, he couldn't have another.
Travis shook his head, wanting Irial to understand. But how could he want Irial to understand, when he himself still had a lot to learn about his own feelings? Caitlin. Irial. The two people he cared about most in this world besides his cousin. "I wasn't unhappy because you left... I...We just wanted you to come back to us. Safely..." He took a deep breath. "We don't blame you for leaving us, Irial. We knew that you didn't have any other choice."
He felt something squeeze his heart at Irial's words. Disregarding it, he gave Irial a small smile. "Don't worry, Irial,"
We will, "You will see her soon enough." Travis glanced inside the compartments around him, as if Caitlin would jump out and surprise the pair of them. He turned back to Irial, wanting to say in so many words that it would be the same. They'd be together, like a family.
"She's missed you," he told him. "She'll be thrilled when she finds out you're back."
