"Nice to meet you," Jake returned the smile half-heartedly as he heard his name. Letting his gaze linger on the girl for just a moment, Jake smiled again and looked back at the more familiar people.

"That was cool of her." Melanie replied, giving him a small nervous smile, still eying the spider situated on his shoulder cautiously. She knew who Kayla was though she couldn't quite understand why she'd want to give him a tarantula...

"Fine then! But it's not mine and I'm not going to keep it." she answered, keeping her voice down. "I could are less if you want to toss it out the window." she grumbled, her good mood evaporating. "Excuse me for asking a question." Melanie mumbled under her breath, so no one else could hear her but herself, resting her chin on her knees again as she watched Jake, not truly wanting him to throw the money away, even though she knew she wasn't going to take it. Not unless he found some way of giving it to her without her own knowledge. "Look...don't get mad." she added, not wanting to deal with Jake when he was angry. "I'm sorry alright." she said in a defeated tone, frowning. "Like I said...do what you want with it." Melanie continued to ramble.

Melanie realized Jake knew the boy she'd invited into the compartment...after all he was in their year...and their house as well. She just had never talked to him. Again with the living under a rock. Siiiigh.

She said, feeling the need to introduced her cat as well, pointing up at the sleeping feline.
