Raiden's my... I think third character to go through Hogwarts? I was inactive in the RP for a while, so yeah. I had planned to play my last character's younger brother, but I was on MSN one day and someone wanted to RP over that... so I created a new character. It was a bit unorthodox, as I started with his face and worked backwards from that. But, with MSN, that's how it went.
When I brought him to SS, I already had the face and the name. The personality, however, needed tweaking, as he wasn't being played as an adult here. Utterly and completely, the character from MSN and the character on SS are nothing alike.
I did things backwards from my usual stance, however. Usually I'll think out the character's personality and all that before putting a face to them. But then again, Rai's a rather backwards character, so maybe that's how he NEEDED to be created. In the end, it's all up to you! As Linda's said, make sure to build in character flaws. They don't have to be the worst end-all flaws ever, but look around. Everyone has personality flaws (Raiden's ridiculously naive, for example...). Make your characters believable and RPing will be a lot more fun! Also, sometimes it's easier to just... let a character build him- or herself. Raiden's personality and everything was set out and it worked, but for example... In another RP, I have a character named Takki. He's turned into the most spastic, paranoid person I've ever played. He didn't start out like that, but he worked toward it himself. He still has a lot of the traits I laid out when originally figuring him, but... don't be afraid to let go and let your character form him- or herself. These things happen, and they tend to make for a more organic, interesting RP.
Forgive me if my rambling makes no sense. |
