WHAT? That can't be true! That doesn't even apply to HBP on its own, never mind across the entire series. I'm better than some at accepting that things have to be dropped, but they're frequently replaced by new scenes that add nothing but confusion and cliches.
For example, things like Harry flirting with the waitress in this film. I'm not complaining because the scene is new, (much), but because we don't see Harry behaving like that in the books. Ever. If they want that scene, why not just have him waiting and secretly reading a Wizarding Paper with one of those whirling headlines they overuse? They won't save one microsecond of time with out of character behaviour. The 'we can't film everything' excuse, is totally irrelevant in these situations.
Also, when Emma reads the books, does she not see the discrepancies between her generic, two-dimensional Hollywood Hermione and the three-dimensional book Hermione? I'm not talking about the different appearance (well, not this very moment) but the fact she comes across as a different, far less complex person. Not even on the third reading?
Film Ron is barely two-dimensional, just a collection of reaction shots (shame, because Rupert's a good actor) and dull prat-falls. In the book, his humour is witty, in the films it's slap-stick and far less funny. Think "I am the chosen one" for the scriptwriter's idea of amusing. I mean, even before you'd seen it too many times in various trailers.
Harry has escaped much of this character change for the most part, but the leering at Romilda the above scene, fits in 'nicely' with this waitress flirtation. Dumbledore has probably been mentioned before....
I don't think Emma knows what many fans of the book really think of the films, not if she can come out with that comment . She obviously doesn't read the forums on sites like this. I absolutely agree. How can Emma say that they've stayed as close as possible to the canon without shooting a long movie. That is bologna! Not to mention I would much rather see a 3.5 hr. long movie that was closer to the canon of the books. Whatever! I'm tired of these movies. I guess I'm just going to have to wait until someone else redoes the movie series. Hopefully it's in my lifetime
