Exclusive: Half-Blood Prince set report teaser #2
Today we have been given the go ahead from Warner Brothers to release a second teaser for our upcoming Half-Blood Prince set report. We originally visited Leavesden Studios in January 2008 and subsequently released our first teaser in December last year. This second teaser comprises of select quotes from our interview with Bonnie Wright a.k.a. Ginny Weasley. The other cast and crew interviews, together with many details from the set visit, will be revealed closer to the July 15th release date. -----------------------
Bonnie Wright, who’s been playing Ron’s little sister Ginny since the age of 9, has relished in the opportunity, in Half-Blood Prince, to participate in things which she previously only got to watch the boys do – Quidditch. “It’s fun but it’s quite painful sometimes when they throw you about. It’s quite high up, it’s kind of ‘Oh my god, I’m really high up’ and you get that kind of sickening urge but yeah it was fun.”
As well as her brother, the new Keeper, Ginny joins Harry on the team, who she soon establishes a much desired relationship with. For Bonnie, this was a ‘weird’ scenario to contemplate, however she admits it is, “…slightly more comfortable with someone you know rather than just a random person.” However, unlike many fans, Bonnie did not see that it was destined in the series, “…it was quite a shocking relationship that happened ‘cause I never really thought it would actually materialise.”
Given Ginny’s prominence in the penultimate story, she got to work more closely with David Yates, the director, discussing her character in a depth she hadn’t before, with more rehearsals to perfect the part. “Well I think obviously ‘cause at first she was really shy, in the first few ones, there wasn’t much to do and there’s a contrast. She’s the youngest out of all these brothers and in order to step out and not just be this kind of little girl anymore she’s obviously had to, you know, step over the brotherly kind of way and almost, not in a tomboyish way but in quite a kind of feisty way. And I guess also, in a sense, that’s made Harry probably notice her more and not just as a younger sister to Ron.” Bonnie confirmed that even whilst shooting Harry Potter 6, she was already discussing Ginny’s part in Deathly Hallows with David Yates.
Her favourite scene to shoot, unsurprisingly, was the much-talked about, action sequences in the Christmas battle at the Burrow, mostly because, “I’ve always enjoyed being with everyone in the house.”
Confronted with the notion of it all concluding very soon, we asked what she would take from the set, if she could; “I guess the most obvious thing would be your wand, I mean that’s the key to your success, that’d be interesting. I’ve always wanted a Gryffindor jumper, because they always feel lovely and there’s something that although it’s so average…I’ve always really liked them… I’d probably take the whole set! The whole studios! That would be great!”
