| so now it gets a little more complicated ... Chapter Fifty – Six The head mistress looked down at the parchment she had been given, there were nine other names, all previous students of hers, some current as of last year and one whom she knew well, and knew was innocent of any crime they planned to prosecute him for.
She folded it in half and put it in the desk draw looking up to the portrait hanging over her desk, “How could they do such a thing Albus, what turns them into monsters?”
“It becomes no clearer in death then it did in life, Minerva” the bearded face sighed but held a smile and a twinkle in his bright blue eyes. “We did our best to guide them, when they leave these grounds they make there own choices, bad or good, they follow what they think is right”
She nodded before speaking again “And Harry?”
“He will come through in the end, do not fret”
She smiled and turned back to the desk calling her owl from its perch and clipping a letter to its foot, “To Rufus Scrimgeour, Minister of Magic” she stroked the owl affectionately before opening the window and letting the bird out as the cool winter air came in.
There was a knock at the door, and she glanced at the large grandfather clock, it was lunchtime – “Come in” It would be a student or a Teacher, or Harry himself if Madam Pomfrey had took her eyes off him for less then a few seconds.
The girl opened the door, she looked worried and tired but on a mission.
“Miss Weasley, please, sit down” she gestured to the chair in front of the desk.
The girl obliged and smiled weakly, “Professor, I was told you would know who Harry would be on trial with”
“I do, he would like to know I take it”
She shook her head “I haven’t asked him, he’s still sleeping, I would like to be the one to tell him”
“You think he will take the list better coming from you”
“I know he will and I can keep him calm without Madam Pomfrey having to give him a Paralysing potion”
“She did” The head mistress sighed “He is still not well I take it, and this trial will not help”
“His temperature has gone down, he looks a lot better, but Harry doesn’t like a fuss made over him, he’ll play it down”
“It is fortunate he has someone who knows him as well as you do”
“He has Hermione and Ron”
“But it has been you that has stuck by him consistently Miss Weasley, you who knows him inside and out – he is a lucky young man”
She watched as Ginny smiled slightly before speaking “It’s like we’re connected, I – I don’t feel well when he doesn’t, and being apart from him as well as the trial and I can feel it getting to him even as he sleeps, he’s been having nightmares he doesn’t know about or remember but I’ve had them and I know what they are” She rubbed her forehead “He lashes around in his sleep, but when I’m there he sleeps soundly. When I’m in my dorm the other girls said I did the same thing, so Madam Pomfrey has given me a stronger sleeping draught then yesterday to see what will happen tonight”
“I believe that there is a connection there that runs deeper then blood, you feel his pain because of how strongly you are attached to each other”
“But why couldn’t I before, why wasn’t it the same when he was being possessed?”
“This is a more human pain then that, this is not magical this is from our muggle roots – his pain was Voldemort’s and not his own therefore not yours to share”
Ginny nodded “Could you tell me who, I think if he knew he would be a lot better” she sighed “And so would I” the professor noted the pale green tinge of her skin and the redness around her eyes more closely now “Of course and then I shall escort you to the hospital wing, I think its in your best interest to stay there this afternoon and tonight”
“I’m fine, really professor”
“I think your playing it down too Miss Weasley” she replied opening the draw and taking out the piece of parchment “Would you like me to read them to you?” Ginny nodded in response.
“Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Fenrir Greyback, Lucius Malfoy, Narsissa Malfoy, Draco Malfoy Walden McNair, Angie O’Malley, Amy O’Malley, Harry Potter”
“Thank you Professor”
She stood up and walked round the desk handing Ginny the piece of parchment. “I shall inform your teachers of the situation, in this case I don’t think we need to worry your parents just yet” she walked to the door as Ginny stood up, “Thank you again Professor”
“Come now Miss Weasley, I think its time for you to see Harry” *****
She sat down by his bed, already feeling better just being near him. She didn’t want to think about next year if he was in the real world and she was still here in Hogwarts. He woke up and his smile widened but changed “Before you tell me anything I have to go to the toilet” She began to laugh and was still giggling when he returned.
“Better now” She smiled sitting beside him on the bed
“Much, thanks” he grinned “I know you don’t have a reason to visit me twice in one day so this must be something really important, or I’ve missed a whole day again”
“It’s the same day, the afternoon, about two O’clock”
“And” He questioned,
“Well I came to tell you more about what happened this morning”
“Ahh the visit from the Fudge and the dodgy potion Madam Pomfrey gave me – what exactly did I say to you?”
“You called Bellatrix ‘Crazy lady Lestrange’ and were just generally out of it, don’t worry only I was here to witness it”
“Bloody hell” he rubbed his forehead “So what did you want to tell me about the trial?”
“The names of the people you’ll be up with, there are nine of them”
Harry sighed “There all good ones aren’t they; I mean the best the death eaters have to offer”
“There all people we – well we’ve been in contact with in one way or another”
Harry replied “The Malfoy’s”
“The three of them” she said nodding,
“Crabbe and Goyle”
She nodded again,
“Who else”
“Those O’Malley twins we met at Malfoy manor, Walden McNair”
“He was Buckbeak’s executioner once”
“And” she took a deep breath “Fenrir Greyback”
He felt ready to explode and she placed a warning hand on his shoulder making him look into her eyes.
He took a deep breath trying to slow down his heart beat and gave up just pulling her into a hug instead.
She could feel him shaking with anger and knew the nightmares would be bad tonight, worse then last night only he wouldn’t remember and she would. They would still come if she stayed here, but at least if they were together and Madam Pomfrey was nearby she would look out for them.
Madam Pomfrey and Professor McGonagall watched from the office before beginning to talk again. She told Poppy what Ginny had told her, and Poppy nodded in agreement. “They will be looked after, this will soon pass. It’s only a shame that there bond is so strong its causing her pain without him even knowing it”
