Quirking an eyebrow at her outright questioning, Jake smiled. Again. "Nah, it's okay..." he nodded, turning to face Melanie a tad better. "I just... well... I don't get on with my mother... We have pretty explosive confrontations, and if not that, then we never talk... It gets lonely," Jake explained, leaning on the table. "Plus... I left her house last summer... and went to stay with a friend... but we fell out and I wasn't welcome at her house anymore... So yeah," Jake paused here, staring off and trying to think of a way to explain that though technically he didn't live anywhere, he wasn't homeless.

"Basically, my mother sent me an address, to my dad's place..." he went on. "It's only a small flat from what I can tell... and I have no idea what it's going to be like... what he's going to be like... if I'll even find him... He could have moved for all I know."

Turning back to the table, Jake was silent for a moment, because Melanie was going to go now. But then... she didn't. "What?" Jake asked, a tad bemused. "I mean... of course... Stay. I mean, it's fine with me," he rambled, trying to wipe the idiotic grin off his face. It was good to know that Melanie didn't hate him like he'd thought for so long.

Well, come on... she had been really weird with him before then.

With that explanation the grin slid right off her face. At least his mother was still alive, but still...those were some awful things to happen. Melanie wanted to reach over and give him a hug reeeeally bad, but stopped herself, unsure suddenly whether that would be okay with him or not. Instead she settled with giving him a sympathetic look. "That's really really...well bad." Melanie finished, her brows drawling in slightly as she glanced down at her locket, fiddling with the heart at the end of it.

Melanie looked downright depressed at what her said next. At least she had something to go home to. For sure anyway. From what he said it sounded like he hardly even knew his father, like they were strangers to each other. Suddenly in the pit of her stomach Melanie felt a deep disliking for his mom...She didn't even know the woman, but what kind of mother simply abandoned their son because they were going over a rough patch?!

Not a good one. Humph.

She wanted to offer Jake a place, but she hardly knew him so that would be sorta weird and Cadence was already staying with her for her summer...

Melanie raised an eyebrow, as she noticed his amusement, a look of amusement coming over her face as he rambled on. "Well, good then." she said, glad not to be told to go away.
