....It's very likely that he's on the grounds collecting acorns because he forgot to bring one/is collecting extras for the naughty children who forgot.

On the blackboard behind his desk, Ian has written, "Please start decorating your acorn as a puppet however you would like. There are supplies on my desk. There is no glue, but you should know how to work around that anyway..."
